YFC Altona is excited to announce our 2021 building and program expansion project. Over the last 22 years YFC Altona has always been focused on serving the youth of our community. Providing support and opportunities to our most at-risk youth, bringing lasting positive change to their lives and those around them. In the past 2 years our focus has expanded to offering creative outlets and skill development programs. Our Maker Space program gives teens the opportunity to develop and practice skills such as wood working, 3D design, digital arts, music, programming and much more. This program not only provides a creative outlet, but could also develop into future career opportunities for many youth. A key value of all our programs is accessibility. We want to ensure all youth can take part in our programs regardless of physical limitations, finances, family situation, or beliefs. Our current facility is simply unable to accommodate our programs and accessibility requirements moving forward.

Friesen’s knows the value of investing in our youth and has partnered with YFC Altona to make these dreams a reality. YFC Altona will be occupying a space in the Friesens facility located at 35 6th St SE in Altona. This will require renovation of the existing space, allowing us to make it a purpose-built space for all our programs. This new facility will take our programming space from 1200sq ft(in our current building) to over 7600sq ft in the new facility. Enabling us to accommodate more youth in our space, build permanent spaces for our various programs, and ensure the entire facility is safe and accessible for everyone. The proximity to WC Miller will also enable us to offer lunch hour and after-school programs.

“We are proud to support YFC Altona in this expansion and in their work to offer a positive outlet for youth in the community. We are also excited about the makerspace and the opportunity for young people to gain exposure to the tools and skills that businesses will be hiring for in the future.  This initiative is a win-win-win-win for YFC, for the community, for local businesses, and most importantly for our young people. We encourage the entire community to get behind this initiative” – Chad Friesen, CEO of Friesens Corporation.
